Biography

With a background in i-media and youth, social, and cause marketing, Peter Klaus joined Fleishman-Hillard International Communications in November 1998. He currently leads Fleishman-Hillard's Online Marketing, Editorial, and Word-of-Mouth Strategy team, dedicated to advancing client goals through a custom-tailored approach that generates earned-media messaging in the interactive environment.

Mr. Klaus manages a team of online media professionals that generate increased awareness, Web traffic, and online discussion for clients including: AARP, Dannon, Fortune Magazine, Procter & Gamble, Library of Congress, Social Security Administration, The Better Sleep Council, Vision Council of America, and Yahoo!. His perspectives on interactive media and popular culture trends have been published in both general market and trade media including: About.com, Ad Age, Associated Press, PR Week, and Washington Post.

Mr. Klaus is also a founding member of Fleishman-Hillard’s White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) account team. ONDCP's National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign is widely recognized as one of the largest and most comprehensive social marketing campaigns in the history of the Federal government. Mr. Klaus managed ONDCP's award-winning, youth-focused interactive strategy for over six years and developed both media-based and corporate partnerships with many of the world's leading Web destinations including: About.com, EOnline, MTV.com, Lycos.com, Oprah.com, and Yahoo!.

Mr. Klaus also specializes in the integration of social causes with corporate marketing. He has worked with companies and nonprofit organizations ranging from Ford and Warner/Reprise Records to Do Something and SHiNE (Seeking Harmony in Neighborhoods Everyday) in this regard. In 2004, he was invited to serve as Chief Creative Strategist for the non-profit organization STAND (Students Taking Action Not Drugs), a national, college-focused, peer-to-peer drug prevention program funded by the Drug-Free America Foundation.

A graduate of Loyola College, Mr. Klaus is also a classically-trained, professional actor and has appeared in over 15 stage productions in the Washington, DC area as well as roles for: HBO's critically-acclaimed series The Wire, Walt Disney's feature film Washington Square, and The National Geographic Channel.
